Being inspired by Chris - M0LXG’s battery box project and, after kindly being given one of Chris’s spare batteries, I decided to make my own.
I must say, at this stage, I haven’t actually come up with a design; I’m urgently just playing around with some ideas.
Firstly, let’s look at the components I have:-
Yucel 12V 7.0Ah Battery
One thing I did notice about the Yucel battery is that the terminals aren’t the usual 6.3mm. They are somewhat smaller, though the 6.3mm spade connector do still make good contact, certainly for the currents I will be using it at.

The meter has 6.3mm spade connectors on the “source” side and with be fitted with Anderson Power Pole connectors on the “load” side.
The leads on the meter are 12AWG and, though being multi stranded, are still quite stiff. In order to keep the meter within the footbprint of the battery I designed and 3D printed a pair of stand offs.
I didn’t really want to leave the battery free standing on the floor, so made a base from plywood and hardboard. The base will also allow me to add further structures to support the battery, along with carrying handles, and so forth.
I do have a modellers fuel proof varnish which I will use to give this a bit of a seal to protect from moisture, etc.
It is always wise to round off edges!
Well, this is my progress, so far, with all the components loosely fitted together.
