Well, I finally got around to doing some more work on the battery box project.
I normally plan my projects so that I know exactly where I want to be, and what needs doing. However, on this occasion I let it develop as I went along.
Adding Sides
After pondering for some time, I added sides of hardboard. A little light sanding, before glueing, and they fitted nicely, holding the battery firmly in place.
At this stage it was obvious that I needed to build a frame to keep the power meter in place and to stop the battery from moving vertically, which I could do with the aid of the power meter stand offs .
Cross Frame
The cross Frame was constructed from plywood strips, with some softwood inserts to stop the power meter falling out if the box was to be turned upside down.
The cross frame is held in place with four screws, and is very quick to remove.
Assembled
All that is left is to add the Anderson Powerpoles and a strap/carry handle.
I’m still pondering whether to paint it or leave it as a natural finish. If left natural I will add a varnish to the base.
There is even enough room to add some storage compartments for all those bits and pieces that are usually left behind.

Unfortunately, there was quite a bit of glare, so the camera didn’t show the meter too well. If you look closely you can see that it is connected.
I am considering a piece of Perspex on top for a little extra protection, but not sure this is really necessary.
